| April 20, 2009 - Secrets of the Masters with Laura Nikas |
|
PROGRAM OUTLINE:
Secrets of the Masters
As photographers, we each need a huge "database"
in our heads of great images, so our subconscious can
call on these images for help when we create our own
work. Laura's presentation will delve into the history
of the portrait, from early Renaissance times through
today. We will view and analyze many works of art,
discussing their use of color, light, posing,
composition, subject matter, and symbolism. The
interesting twist is that each historical work will be
juxtaposed with a modern photographic image, so we can
compare how things have changed, and how things have
stayed the same. For example, a portrait of a
Renaissance bride may be compared with a bride of today.
The presentation will provide everyone with new insights
into art, and new ways to find inspiration for their own
work.
BIO:
Laura began her career as a staff newspaper
photographer in Ohio, covering everything from news to
fashion to food to location portraits. After having a
family of her own, Laura wanted to create work which
would have a lasting and emotional value for her
clients. She opened Cricket Photography in 2001, a
residential studio creating custom portraits for
seniors, families, and children. Laura Nikas, M.
Photog., CPP, has been selected as San Antonio's
Photographer of the Year for five consecutive years
(2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006).
